Partnerships

Through a pilot program in association with The Last Green Valley (TLGV) and CT DEEP, we have a buoy present in the deepest part of the lake. The buoy contains sensors which monitor the temperature of the lake at 1-meter intervals all the way to the bottom. This equipment is the ONLY continuous monitoring we have on the lake.

Twice a year the sensors are pulled up, the data is retrieved, and the battery health and viability of the sensors is checked. Low battery sensors are swapped, and the buoy is redeployed. All data collected is shared with CT DEEP and TLGV.

We recently partnered with Salt Watch (The Izaak Walton League of America) to monitor road salt pollution around our lake. Volunteers have obtained Salt Watch Kits and will be collecting data from our inlets and storm drains to better understand the road salt entering our lake. This information will be shared with Salt Watch, TLGV, DEEP and the towns of Eastford and Woodstock. 

As partners in the program we will:

• Provide the Izaak Walton League of America with all Salt Watch data collected via email in spreadsheet format (with date collected, latitude/longitude, and chloride value in ppm).

• Maintain open communication with the Izaak Walton League of America staff to discuss changes in programming or questions that arise around Salt Watch engagement, data sharing, and kit distribution.
